From the moment a person first affirms his faith in God and is incorporated into the Church by Holy Baptism, his ultimate goal is union with God. This comes about through the life-long process of Christian transformation and growth which is called theosis or sometimes deification. It is a process which involves both knowledge and action, engaging all of the human person. Within the life of the Church, the liturgy and the sacraments are the most important means available for this growth and development to take place.
In order to assist with this need of all Christians, at St. Vincent of Lerins Orthodox Church, weekly Notes from the Subdeacon have been published for some time. In these, Subdeacon Joseph provides commentary and background information on the liturgical texts for the coming Sunday (or some times for a feast day) based on the works of the various Fathers of the Church and Western Orthodox Tradition.
Commencing with Sunday, November 29, 2015 A.D. These Notes are now being made available in podcast format to meet the growing demand. In addition, there is now offered a monthly lecture on some topic related to the liturgy but which requires more thorough treatment. These lectures form a series entitled Tools of the Spiritual Life and are also produced as podcasts.
St Benedict and St Bede have provided continuing inspiration for this ministry and have made this work possible by the work and prayer they did in their time. Thus, this ministry claims both Saints as heavenly patrons. May their prayers and spiritual assistance reach all who have any contact with this ministry.
